POSITION SUMMARY

Job Function – Responsible for troubleshooting, provisioning, administering, designing and maintaining APS
Active Directory environment. Must fully understand the use and purpose of group policy objects, containers and
OU's. Responsible for upgrading, installing, implementing, deploying and performing preventive maintenance
on Microsoft Windows 2000, 2003, and 2008 domain controllers, and member servers. Must be proficient with
installation, configuration and management of network utilities, DNS, DHCP, WINS and Microsoft Exchange 2003
and 2010 Servers.

Relationships – This position reports the IT Communications Technical Manager. Works under the general
oversight of a Manager within IT. Also works closely with others in IT Infrastructure, IT Information Services, IT
Applications, APS Business Units, all APS Schools, and many external vendors and service providers. Provides
technical direction to the junior (Analyst).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Design, Build, Configure, Install, Monitor and Support the Email (Microsoft Exchange) Systems for the
entire school district.
Design, Build, Configure, Install, Monitor and Support the Identity Management (Microsoft Active
Directory) Systems for the entire school district./
Design, Configure, Manage and Monitor Single Sign On and overall Identity Lifecycle Management for
the entire school district.
Install, Configure, Test and Update Email and Directory Services Servers, Operating Systems and related
enterprise-class software and monitoring systems for the entire school district.
Provides Infrastructure Support for Enterprise and Student Applications, including meeting with
Business and Application Owners to define requirements prior to project implementation.
Creates and Updates Documentation and Diagrams for the Email and Identity Management
Environments and ensures Audit Compliance.
Delivers services in his/her area of expertise as called upon by IT management, in support of the mission
and goals of APS.

KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS

Certifications/Licenses:

Internal Communication:

External Communication:

Bachelors’ degree in Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, or
any equivalent discipline.
5 years of experience as a senior level active directory and exchange server
engineer, and 2 years of management experience
Makes recommendations or decisions that usually affect the assigned department,
others outside of the assigned department, and the entire school district.
Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP) and Exchange 2003/2010
certifications preferred.
Manager or Director is available on an “as needed” basis to establish general
objectives; independent judgment is required.

Requires regular contact within department and other departments.

Requires regular contact with contractors, vendors and manufacturers.

Responsible for orienting and training others; acts as a lead or senior.
Applies, recommends and implements advanced technology concepts to improve
the efficiency and effectiveness of multiple divisions.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Knowledge of the following:
• Knowledge of cabling, basic routing, communications
equipment, Ethernet cabling and active directory
and exchange network protocols (TCP/IP, UDP and
LDAP), patch panels, fiber optic cabling and testing,
troubleshooting and security procedures is required.

Skills in the following:
• Demonstrated ability to apply the concepts and
commands required to install, configure and troubleshoot
active directory and exchange server applications in
multi-protocol a district wide network environment with
centralized server management control.
• Ability to liaison with team members and vendors in
an effort to maintain immediate response to critical
requirements resulting from analysis of current
specification data on assigned systems.
