Counsel, Business, Tax and Governance The candidate will be a member of the Office of the General Counsel which provides legal advice and counsel on a range of topics within their general practice area. Will perform legal research, negotiate and document business transactions, identify new or emerging areas of risk, and manage or provide support on specific legal projects. Responsible for developing new policies and procedures, and providing updates and advice on existing programs and policies. Will have subject matter expertise in healthcare and general business transactions including contract drafting, contract review and negotiation of various business transactions. Recommend retaining outside counsel where internal resources, knowledge, or capacity limits the ability to effectively manage an issue internally. If outside counsel is retained at the recommendation of Counsel, the candidate will manage outside counsel's work and associated expenses.
Qualifications: Law school graduate and member in good standing of the State. 5+ years of experience as Trial Attorney for the legal defense of workers' compensation claims and/or civil litigation. Should have experienced with training small groups in current legal practices and procedures in the field of workers' compensation defense and subrogation. Ability to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing, in an articulate, persuasive, precise and professional manner. Ability to lift legal files, including documents and exhibits, up to a weight of 30 pounds. Must be willing and able to travel extensively using all means of public transportation, as well as capable of prolonged automobile driving, in excess of three hours a day, to widely dispersed venues. Valid driver's license in good standing. Bilingual skills in Spanish is strongly preferred.
