Senior Trial Attorney Duties : With limited direction of managing attorney, performs duties of legal counsel on complex legal matters in the defense and representation of the company in a variety of courts of law and other related appearances. Handles highly complex cases at the Workers' Compensation Appeals Board as well as state and federal courts throughout state. Defends workers' compensation cases throughout state. Takes depositions, analyzes testimony and prepares and files related reports. Represents the Company in appearances at hearings and conferences; prepares and files related reports. Researches and prepares highly complex legal pleadings for cases before the Workers' Compensation Appeals Board as well as state and federal civil courts. Provides advice, training and recommendations on case handling strategies to representatives of the Claims Department. Handles civil litigation, bond, employer liability defense and subrogation recovery. Performs legal research at all levels, from advising clients through the appellate procedures. Qualifications: Juris Doctor degree or equivalent work experience. Must be a member of the California State Bar in good standing. 5 years of civil litigation experience, including 2 years of experience in managing the work of other attorneys and support staff. Excellent judgment, initiative and ability to work independently. Ability to litigate subrogation claims on behalf of Workers' Compensation insurance carrier.
