Paralegal The candidate researches and analyzes law sources such as statutes, recorded judicial decisions, legal articles, treaties, constitutions, and legal codes. Searches patent files to ascertain originality of patent application. Searches trademark uses worldwide and advise on correct next steps. Prepares legal documents such as contracts, agreements and letters (including cease and desist letters). Reviews contracts and agreements and provides first draft of comments and next steps to CFO. Prepares and maintain contract, litigation, insurance and patent and trademark records. Prepares insurance applications. Issues insurance certificates for all purposes needed. Coordinates and assists in directing outside legal counsel and insurance agents. Advises interdepartmentally of insurance coverage and requirements. Advises colleagues internally on risk management, contract review process, and insurance matters. Maintains corporate record books including board of directors minutes and consents. Files correspondence and legal and insurance documents in office filing system. Ensures proper indexing and filing of original legal and insurance documents. Performs other clerical duties such as scheduling appointments, providing information to callers, composing and typing routine correspondence, and reading and routing incoming mail.
Qualifications: Completion of law school with LL.B. or J.D. degree and admission to the Bar. Special license to practice before a particular board or federal court may be necessary. 1-5 years of experience as an attorney. A general knowledge of insurance law and specific understanding of the operations and requirements of insured clients, customers and the company. Experience and ability appropriate to the level of cases or matters handled.
